Tastes Like Home Recipe Contest

Calling all student chefs!

Are you currently enrolled at the Culinary Institute of the South or a high school junior or senior in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton or Jasper County in South Carolina? You’re invited to enter the first-ever “Tastes Like Home Recipe Contest” brought to you by a special partnership between TCL’s Culinary Institute of the South and the King Arthur Baking Company, America’s oldest flour company and premier baking resource.

About the Contest

The challenge

Students, it’s time to get inspired by your roots and design a SWEET or SAVORY baked good recipe that tastes like home using King Arthur’s high-quality Unbleached All-Purpose Flour.

The prizes

Winners will receive scholarships to the Culinary Institute of the South or a trip to King Arthur Baking Company’s Bakery in Norwich, Vermont! To learn more see Winning Categories below.

To Qualify

Contestants must be a current TCL Culinary Institute of the South student or a high school junior or senior (11th or 12th grader) enrolled in Beaufort, Hampton, Jasper or Colleton county in South Carolina.

RECIPE instructions

  • Limit one recipe per student
  • Recipes must use at least 1 cup of King Arthur Baking Company’s All-Purpose Flour
  • Design and prepare recipe that tastes like home
  • Must be an original recipe that has not been published
  • Sweet or savory baked good
  • All recipes must include ingredients, method of preparation, and number of servings (6-12 servings required)
  • Submissions must include a photo, brief story about how the recipe links to home for you, brief recipe description, and prep/cooking/baking instructions
  • Each entry will receive a coupon for a free bag of flour (while supplies last).

Recipes will be judged based on creativity, taste, presentation, and best use of King Arthur Baking Company flour. Enter using the link below. Apply by February 11, 2024!

Please note: Finalists will be asked to compete in a live competition at the TCL Culinary Institute of the South on April 6, 2024. Be sure to save this date as finalists must participate at this event to be eligible to win.

  • People’s Choice Award: Social media and KAB swag bags
  • Best Savory Recipe Award: $1,000 CIS Scholarship
  • Best Sweet Recipe Award: $1,000 CIS Scholarship
  • Top Recipe Award:
    – If a college student: Choice of trip to King Arthur Baking Company’s Bakery in Norwich, Vermont or $5,000 CIS Scholarship
    – If a high-school student: $5,000 CIS Scholarship

Important Dates

  • Nov 17, 2023: Submission applications open.
  • 11:59 p.m., Feb 11, 2024: Submission applications close.
  • March 18, 2024: Top recipes selected and notified.
  • April 6, 2024: Recipe competition held at Culinary Institute of the South.
